    Recompressing DV

I have been using two different video editing programs, (After Effects for graphics, and Premiere for editing) and when I go between the two, I have to export and recompress my video.

I was wondering how many times you can recompress before there is a noticable quality loss in DV.

technically once..lol...it depends on what format you compress into.and what codec...if you use huffy uv(lossless codec) there is supposed to be no quality loss.but i would say 2 or 3 times at most.
you will really notice blocks in scenes with alot of dark black in the shot ..also red. red, even on a dvd isnt so great.keep in mind a dvd is a compressed mpeg2.you shouldnt really need more than 3 times if you are going back to minidv for a master. but then again i dont have after effects yet.

Thanks man. Yeah, I'm more on the editing side of things. I guess most of this forum is about encoding and authoring.

My main issue is that I use two programs for two specific tasks. One can do what the other can't and vice versa, so I have to go back and forth. Anyway, I think 3 is the max I'm going to need anyway. I'll post a comment once I see the results.

(Thank goodness I don't have any blazingly red text)
