VHS movies to DVD

I'm not sure if this is the place to post it but does anyone know how to copy VHS movies to DVD as when I tried it I only got audio and a garbled picture, due, presumably to some protection code. Thanks

what procedure (hardware/software) are you using. you might have to get a TBC/video stabilizer

I was going to connect my VCR to the DVD recorder, but after previously trying to copy a commercial tape from one VCR to another VCR I figured there must be some preventive code so was looking for suggestions as to how to make it work going from VCR to DVD recorder. Is your suggestion still valid? Thanks
