    just to clarify some things.

you made a CD-R (VCD), not a dvd right?

what plays good on the PC, the original avi, or the created disc?

that's what i thought. this is typical with nero encoding. very poor way of doing it. use tmpgenc. it's free, will produce a quality file and if you need help using support is here. i'll get you a link.
Are you a video maker, or do you just want to watch? Find the best video software for Windows, Mac, and mobile, whether you want to be the next YouTube star or just need a great media player for watching movies. These apps help you capture video, edit video, convert files, share with friends, and customize your video playback.

with this you can even convert to dvd if you wanted for 30 days, after that the program is only good for VCD like you are doing now.

BTW: before you start a project do the following:

Open TMPgenc Plus, the wizard will open. Close it. The first thing you need to do:

Go to the TMPGEnc's Option menu and select Environmental settings. From there, select the
            VFAPI Plug-in tab.

There you see a list of various reader plugins installed for the TMPGEnc. The one that's called DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is the one that we're looking at. As a default, its priority is -1. Select the item and right click on it. Choose Higher priority and repeat this until the "Priority" for this item is higher than any other plugin's priority in the list (usually 2).

that's typical, try the directshow setting fix first

                    FAQ
No Audio on Output File After Using TMPGEnc
This is usually caused by the compression on the audio of the source file. If it is an AVI file it is very common. With an AVI file the easiest things to do here are set DirectShow Multimedia File Reader's priority to 2 or even better demcompress the audio.

To change the priority of DirectShow, this is done simply by clicking option - environmental setting. Click the VFAPI plug-in tab. You will see DirectShow in the list usually with a priority of -1. Right click on the NAME (not the priority) and click higher priority until the priority is 2 and it is at the top of the list. To decompress the audio for better results, do the following with VirtualDUB...

                    1. Click Video - Direct Stream Copy.
                    2. Click Audio - Full Processing Mode.
                    3. Click Audio - Compression. Select and click ok!
                    4. Click File - Save AVI and try it with TMPGEnc.
