forget winavi. that's garbage. if you are willing to pay for software you might as well buy something worth buying. don't give up so easily or you'll never get ahead. post the file info from virtualdub as mentioned in my first post in this thread.

Edit: just realized the logo you speak of in winavi is likely due to you using the trial--yes?

no, just hit ok and go to file>file information take a screenshot of THAT window. anyway install this for your appropriate operation system.
http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/ then try tmpgenc again. if that fails don't forget the screenshot.

make sure when you get to the appropriate screen to select "keep aspect ratio 2" it will come out just like the original (see screenshot in guide). just follow the guide for the rest.

                        1) install the latest xvid codec
Download the latest version of the XviD codec, which is needed to play and create XviD videos. We offer free downloads for both Windows and Mac users.

                        2) go to the link paglamon gave you and follow the procedures outlined in there if tmpgenc produces sync issues.(it shouldn't)

                        3) just click ok when you see that first screenshot message. i don't think you'll need virtualdub here....

                          2) go to the link paglamon gave you and follow the procedures outlined in there if tmpgenc produces sync issues.(it shouldn't)

                          3) just click ok when you see that first screenshot message. i don't think you'll need virtualdub here....

thanks again.. I think it is the codec issue.. how do I actually know the avi file is in which format.. guess avi has a few quality modes is it ?

                          Thank you so much !

Use GSPOT to ascertain the codecs u need to play ur avi.
                            Download GSpot from here:
Download GSpot 2.7 : GSpot is a utility identifying video codecs and providing comprehensive information about media files.

yes that will work, or you can use the seperate .wav file from that procedure as the audio source for TMPgenc.
