No AVI sound on WMP or PowerDVD

    No AVI sound on WMP or PowerDVD

    I just got great movie from a friend. It's in AVI format. He has no problems playing it on WMP, but on my PC there is no sound - neither on PowerDVD nor on WMP. Any suggestions anyone?

      Do you have all the needed codecs? DivX.. XviD.. AC3 filter? Google all of those and download them.. you should have no problems.

              yes install the latest ffdshow (uninstall any codec packs first)

                  Sorry, guys - you've all completely lost me. I'm new to this, and I don't have a tech background.

                  Splean: Are you saying that these three codecs is all I need? Will the player pick the codec it needs or do I have to do something more?

                  Soup: I downloaded MPC but when I try to play it says it can't find the DVD Directory. Also, do I have to downlaod codecs first or are they already embedded?

                  L.T.Columbo: I followed your link o find out what ffshow is, but all I got was a page of magic incantations. What is ffshow?

                                  I followed your (Anonymez, L.T.Colombo) instructions and installed ffdshow. Ran MPC, but still got the same response. After clicking on Open DVD, I get 'Can't find DVD directory'. Must be something really obvious - but not to me!
