When I convert an .avi to mpeg using TMPGEnc 2.5 or 3 usually the output quality is ok, other times 'blocky'. How does changing the outputted resolution, eg from 512*384 to 720*576, alter the picture quality of the mpeg?
Also, I always load any avi into Gspot before encoding to get a read on the video bitrate. Is there any point in encoding using a higher bitrate than the source avi, ie will it help improve picture quality?
