Choppy playback on new faster videocard

    Hi,

I have bought new cheap videocard XELO nVidia MX400 with 64MB + S-VHS out, after installing it on my PIII 450 MHZ on WIN98SE, 312 MB RAM, I have found my DiVX playback is substantially worse then previously with my old Matrox 8MB card..

I have reinstalled WIN98, DiVX codecs, Direct8.1 - no positive result.. So far I have used as a DiVX player Radlight.

Any advice? Is it possible that my rather old card gave better result? Can be new videocard so CPU consuming? - I expected just the opposite...

    Thanx

    Lubo

Seems to be problem of most low-cost-nvidiaMX-chips. I think it's caused by reduced bandwidth and bad chip design. Reducing the desktop-resolution to 640x480x16bit may help.

"I have found my DiVX playback is substantially worse"

What, specifically, is worse? Is it the quality of the image, the smoothness of the playback, the colors...?

I always have the impression that Matrox cards output better image quality compared to the breeds of nVidia cards and even ATI cards. I'm not aware if a faster GPU will aid in the decoding of DivX videos, as these are more CPU-intensive than GPU-intensive.

Only the smoothness of the playback...

still the same - 4.12 if my memory serves me well...

Some days ago I tried new 5.0 codec but after reading posts that is not suitable for "weaker" CPU (mine is PIII 450 MHz) I unistalled it and reinstalled 4.12 once again...

You may want to have 3.11a installed, followed by 4.12 (Telling it not to play 3.11 contents). Also, try checking, through the About dialog box, whether the 5 you have uninstalled has truly been uninstalled. I had this really ugly experience of having this BETA codec (5) persistently remain in my system no matter how often I tried to uninstall it.
