please help - want to convert .mjpg to .mpg

I want to convert some video clips which are in mjpg format (taken with mobile camera) to mpg format. i have searched a lot on internet to find appropriate program to play and convert these .mjpg files and spent several hours for this but to no avail. what i figured out after so much searching was that some mjpg codecs were needed. I have downloaded and installed many mjpg codecs like morgan, Mainconcept, Picvideo and lot more but to no effect. Imtoo Mpeg encoder is the only tool that at least plays these clips (although at a very fast frame rate) but it also doesn't convert these clips to mpg or avi. What should I do ? Any help in this regard will be deeply appreciated..

Ur clip is probably an avi encoded wth MJPEG codec.Try to open the file in Virtualdub and post the file information.Or try opening wth VLC Media Player.

I had some MJPGs that only worked in VirtualDub, but once in there you have options of how to convert it. But as paglamon said, post the VDub info here.

perhaps file with .avi extension using mjpg codec is another thing, but my files do not have extension .avi, they have the extension .mjpg. i have tried both virtualdub and vlc media player, but none of them plays them. The little bit success that i had was through imtoo mpeg encoder - which at least plays a preview of these files but at a very fast frame rate and is unable to convert it to any other format

IMHO, in order to convert .mjpeg files to .avi files with VirtualDubMod, you have to enable the MJPEG in the VFW codec configuration from disable to libavcodec

does virtualdub actually load the video? if so, but you cant see the video in it, benbryant's post should work

virtualdub doesn't load/open the file. when i try to open the file in virtualdub, it gives the message 'cannot detect file type of ....'

i have installed ffdshow but that also didn't help. i couldn't get the second part of your reply (enable the MJPEG in the VFW codec configuration from disable to libavcodec) can you please elaborate on this,

VirtualDub has a built in MJPEG decoder by the way.

Plays fine in mplayer, which means you can convert with mencoder. You could also use ffmpeg.

these files do not open in virtualdub, and the rest of the tools mentioned are perhaps linux based, but i am using windows xp

The tools I mentioned are cross platform, they compile and run fine under WinXP as well as linux, OSX, etc.
