Windows media player using wrong colours

    Hi all

I will try to explain my problem but I am having trouble.....
some files in windows media player will ony show large pixel red blue and green shades, you can get a general idea of what is going on but the sound is always ok. I am uncertain as to which files as it does not always happen. and also when I try to use live streaming from the web I get this problem.

I hope somebody can help as I have looked for the answer all over but have not been able to find any clues yet.

    Thanks

        You can take your pick.

Download VirtualDubMod for free. VirtualDubMod is based on VirtualDub by Avery Lee. Born as a unification of several modifications, new features have been added including support for the matroska format.

once you have it, "file" > "open video file" >file information.

Thanks all for the pointers. I have tried this but when I open the file all I get is
'virtual dub does not suppourt ASF file formats at the request of microsoft'

So at least now I suppose I know its ASF ? that I am having trouble with.

Try downloading Video LAN Player and see if it plays it well... if not it may be your file.

Also, when I get home I will upload the old version of VirtualDub that DID open ASF files, so you can try that as well.

you need virtual dub 1.3c for .asf, it's easy to get with google.

I dont need to convert it or anything. (At the mo.)
I am more worried about, now I know what it might be, weather or not I might need codecs or a download to fix the live streaming problem.

I had this problem a few days ago on winXP with win media player - large splotches of primary colours?

Yep. Went everywhere looking for help and couldn't really find it.

I had downloaded the file and I thought it must be corrupt and needed fixing.

Then some bright spark suggested I try the file on another machine, which I did, put it on my laptop with win2K and winmediaplayer and it played beautifully.

Went back and did an update on winmediaplayer on my XP and it now works beautifully. No problem.

Have I confused you? I'm saying try updating your winmediaplayer.

                        regards,

                        ab

                          Thanks Abrogard

Had figured out the same thing last week from a throwaway comment about somebody elses totaly unrelated problem.
I updated to windows media player version 10 and the problem went away.
Thank for taking the time to reply and I am pleased with the confirmation I did the right thing by upgrading
