    Question Philips DVP5960/37

    Hi folks,

I bought a Philips DVP5960/37 couple of days ago ... and I was watching an AVI (Chiense with Subtitles) ... both .AVI and .SRT were in one Folder ... the darn thing was playign A-OK and subtitles were showing also ... I stopped the movie because it was late and I wanted to go to bed ...

The next when I tried to play the same AVI over ... the movie plays fien but the darn Subtitles ... freeze 1/3 into the movie ... and it will not switch ahead!?!?!?!?

Q: What is my problem? Any Ideas for Solution?

BTW, I took the Philips back and exchanged it for a new one ... and I will try the same movie tonight ... I am crossing my fingers that it was a glitch in the DVD player.

Also, I played the same AVI and SRT on my desktop with VLC Player and the Subtitles are just fine!!!!!

    So, I am puzzled!

    G!

      Hi folks,

I was reading the Admin Sticky on DivX and Xvid and their differences ... and I was wondering if my Philips player problem playing thru the SRT file might be fixed IF I use "Nic's FourCC Changer" to change my AVI and SRT FourCC names from Xvid to DivX.

Q: Do you folks think that might be a way to get around this problem?

      Thanks,

      G!

Changing the fourCC would only help if you are changing from an unsupported fourCC to a supported one. For instance Sony had a player that didn't support the fourCC "XVID"

So if I understand correctly, you have a DVD player which supports Divx/Xvid, MPeG and you have some .avi files with subtitle that you wanna watch on your player but your player failed to show the subtitle.

Here is another way to do it.

Download avisub version 1.8 (freeware), merge your .avi files together with your .srt files, processing time is only 5 minutes the most (depends on your computer).

There you go, you can watch your movie on your standalone DVD player with subtitle.

Already mentioned xsubs on the previous page.

                Hi folks,

If anyone is interested ... I searched and searched ... eventually found a tip on different forum that fixed my problem ...

Some of my AVI's that would play on my desktop with VSFilter plugin using WMP ... but Subs would freeze at some point on my Philips ... problem was with the .SRT file. I used "Subtitle Workshop 2.1" to fix the timing and overlapping errors ... bingo ... now I can play them on my Philips.

Hope this will help someone else!
