Audio off on friends comp. but not on mine?

I recently borrowed my friends laptop because I was going on a trip and I wanted to watch some movies ( in DivX). He has The Playa and the 4.1 codec but when I watched them there was audio and video but they were very off. like a min off. They are fine on my home computer so I know its not the video. What do I need to add to his computer to get them to work?

What are the hardware configuration of the laptop? If it is an old machine, it may have difficulty playing back divx. In which case, either or a combination of these steps may help:

    1) turn off background applications
    2) reduce color to 16 bit
    3) reduce desktop area to 640x480
    4) a less CPU intensive player such as GDIVX or Yahooplayer.

thanks batman, I had a similiar problem where the sound was out from the video. Tried everything, then the GDIVX player you suggested works and cured the problem. Thanks again
