    Mpeg 2

Ok so I have a usb tv adapter and I record tv shows, except since my reinstall of windows, the recorded shows do not play. I open them and in windows media player, the bar thing just goes right to the end. It doesn't even play. Stranger still, an old recording I made with the same freecom software and settings, from my previous installation of windows, works fine. I restored it from a back up. They are, I presume, in mpeg 2 format. They have a file extension of mpeg.

I have no codec packs installed other than FFDShow which is only divx and xvid as far as I can remember.

    Can someone help please?

could be either a codec or hardware/driver problem, first things first, try playing the files with VLC

Ok I googled it and downloaded it.

It plays the video but no sound.

It also says the video is 57 seconds long when it clearly isnt, when it gets to the end of the seek bar the video still plays. It is about 4 mins long.

It is angel and airwaves on the late show.

It is a dvb yes and it is mpeg.

I just found out that another video that VLC plays will not play in windows media player. I dont particulalry want to have two video players and would like to keep media player 10. This video is encoded in fourCC xvid codec according to virtualdub mod. I have FFDShow installed. I dont know how the xvid codecs can be different?

            Is there any solution?

do yourself a favour and ditch media player 10. use media player classic, its internal filters should play your dvb streams without fuss.

if you're really intent on wmp, guess you'll need an mpeg2 decoder like ones that come with powerdvd, windvd, nvidia purevideo or dscaler5
