    color dissociation problem

    Hello,

some video files, especially flv but also some mpeg and avi-s are not played perfectly on my pc. More specifically, some colors are displayed on wrong place and not there where they should be. For example, if the guy has red t-shirt, the red color of his t-shirt will be projected somewhere else, and not on his body. sometimes some colors stay back as a trace. I tried several players with the same result (my default player is MPC) so it's not because of player. Maybe it's because my Win98SE which I'm running on my old machine. What should be a reason?

The same with VLC.. But there's one strange thing: After I pause playback of video with dislocated colors and save paused image as a picture (MPC has such an option), the picture is normal, without color dissociation, the paused video image also gets normal and after continuing playback, the colors even stay at correct place, but only temporarily.. Then everythin begins again.

Is it graphic card? monitor driver? old OS? (win98SE). Friend of mine, who has approximately as old notebook as I, and is also running win98SE, experienced the same problem with these problematic video files.

which graphics card? get latest drivers & directx

you might also like to go options-->output in MPC, and try vmr or haali's renderer (need haali's splitter installed for the option to become available)

          Thanks anonymez.
Where can I get haali's renderer? Is it included in ffdshow pack, or do I have to install it? I don't know which graphic card, I'll let you know as soon as I can.

I tried both haali and VMR 7&9, but neither did help. Below are video specs of my pc, which I extracted from my pc. Regarding the driver, It will require some days before I update it, because I don't know how to update a driver and I have to take it to my friend. So it's a driver?

This has been happening as long as I know, I mean the files which are being played with color problems never ever have been played properly. But As I said, most files work well, only some files (especially flash video - flv, and few avi-s) have such problem. This problem persists if I try on my friend's old laptop with win98SE, but they are played ok on any Windows xp. So it can be concluded that it has to do something with Win98SE.

I'll try to update the driver next week and will get back to this forum and tell you what happens.
