fastest way to burn avi movies?

Hello, Im having issues with burning avi files using nero. It seems whenever I d/l an avi movie and try to burn it using nero, 1. nero express gives an error "no compatible fiels found" 2. nero vison express seems to be able to burn the avi file to dvd disc but it useally takes 2-3 hours to burn the initial copy. Is there any programs availible that will burn avi files as fast as (ex.) nero express burns vts files, or imgburn burns img files? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks

      re/re

well that literally answered the question as far as "fastest", thx info, but I guess what I'm asking is whats the fastest way to burn avi/mpeg files so that they play in most standard dvd players?

After burning data disc, it played fine on my pc, but doesnt even give a play option on my xbox 360 or regular dvd player.

you'd need a dvd player that will have divx playback. otherwise i'd suggest mediacoder or super. not the best, but it's rather quick IMO. i did some testing with super the other day and was suprised by the speed, even with a high bitrate. for any serious conversions i don't use these, that's just my preference.

that's not bad then. i don't know much of anything about xboxes, but i think the only way to get them to play is if you in fact did the conversions to dvd.

the "burn data" worked fine for the 1 mpeg I tested, but isnt going as smoothly for the avi file I'm testing. So I'm in the process of converting the avi file to mpeg, in hopes it will play in both of my dvd players. Once the conversion is complete, can I still use the "burn data" option in Nero for a quick copy or is that not recommended?

you can still burn as data if it's a standard mpeg-1. should also work if you make a VCD, assuming your player supports it which i think it should. but rather than doing this, i'd cange the compression and audio stream to something else if you have compatibility problems.

After the conversion from avi to mpeg, the video did play in my player but there was no sound. I didnt change/adjust any options during the convertion, basically just clicked proceed all the way through.. Going to play with it abit more to see if I can find what I did incorrectly.

if it had PCM audio could be the problemo, virtualdub is my tool of choice for fixing that. what audio stream type did it have?

thats right, you'll need something like TMPGEnc dvd author or similar. that audio stream when converted through TMPGEnc to mp2 should be fine unless the stream itself is no good. (i've seen it a few times)
