ffdshow not working!

I just reformatted yesterday, and am in the process of installing all my programs again.

I downloaded ffdshow from the x264 site.

But, when I try to play an XVID file it keeps decoding with DivX and giving errors and not playing right. I told ffdshow to decode DivX (same as XviD?) but yet the DivX program keeps coming up and NOT ffdshow. Why are they conflicting?

divx should decode divx just fine, elaborate on errors?

The file is XviD but as far as I know the two are very similar? XviD will show the DivX logo and be decoded by DivX etc.



And when playing that file in MPC... it's just a black frame and the audio has like 800% speedup, in WMP it just gives some "cannot open file" error.

But it played fine before reformat, and opens fine in VLC.

It does this for everything in DivX... I remember I had this problem before... why?

Nope. It's odd, both MPC and WMP try to open it for over a minute before erroring, it's as if the file is bad. But it's not since it opened fine before reformatting. But I do know that I see a DivX tray icon and not an ffdshow one.

latest directx? what happens if you uninstall divx? use MPC.

MPC just turns black.

Now I corrupted my DRM, I fixed it but now Napster won't let me download songs... wow. I don't wanna reformat again

I can encode now... I uninstalled DivX and installed the Gordian Knot Codec Package which had a different version.

But somehow it doesn't have a quantizer option, only target kbps. I will have to use AutoGK to do quant1 and so-on.
