    I cant get a divx to play

    Can someone help me.
    I am new to all of this and i am stuck .I have windows xp
    and have just downloaded a movie which is divx.
    When i play it then i get full sound but no picture.
    Windows media player tries to connect to codec then just says "ERROR CONNECTING TO CODEC"
    What do i do?

    Can anybody help me?

    I am new to this so if you do decide to help i will need very basic step by step instructions.

      Install the divx codec. Generally, installing a combination of DivX3.11a + 4.12 (Not allowing it to play 3.11 contents) will solve your playback codec problem.

          Or it could be that you need the new Divx 5.01 codec BUT try Enchanter's suggestion (with 3.11 and 4.12) first since 5.01 overwrites version 4.12.
