HDTV to FLV

I had to convert a HD video to FLV an its take to long... is this normal ('couse of the quality) or I need to download other codecs? a 10MB video to convert takes more than 3 hours in a sempron 754 2800+

that would be anywhere between a 5 and 15 second clip. sure it's only a 10mb source?
