Unable to import AVI files into Sonic MyDVD

I have been unable for the last 2 weeks to import video files into a MyDVD (version 6.2.0, bundled with Sonic Digitalmedia, preinstalled on HP Media Center PC) project to create a dvd. It worked just fine until recently. I have not added, or removed any software from the pc. When import is attempted, I get this error message "Could not make a thumbnail, make sure your have appropiate decoder installed. _47010"

As I mentioned, I was able to do this all along, and have successfully created dvds using avi files and media center recorded files plus can import from unprotected dvds and hard drive dvd folders., but MyDVD has stopped.accepting AVIs and I cannot figure out why. I even tried using the pc's System Restore to return computer back to the time I was able to import such files. That didn't work either.
Is there a plugin or way to fix this problem? I've tried uninstalling MyDVD, and reinstalling using Software Recovery , but the same message appears, and I can't import AVI files.
What decoder would be appropriate for use with MyDVD? Spent nearly all day Saturday trying to work this out, with no success.Thank you for any help that is offered..

I wish I were as smart as you, so would you mind dumbing it down for me?
So I just pick one of the 3 Latest File Releases there, and download it. When I open it, will it load the needed decoder where it needs to go, and magically everything turns out right, the sun shines, the wind blows, birds sing, and a rainbow appears thru the sky?

My mind truly has been pulped this weekend. Thank you for lending a helpful hand.

Yes, go with the December 2006 Beta.

          The sun is shining.

          The wind is a blowin'

          Birds are indeed singing...

And a rainbow is over my pc.

It worked! Thank you again, I truly appreciate the help. I still have no clue why this all happened. I didn't delete anything, so why it suddedly stopped accepting avi files remains a mystery.
