    Playing divx

Hi i have some divx movies on the computer in avi format, roughly 700mb per movie. I wanted to buy a portable dvd player for holidays etc and ive seen one on amazon that says divx. I wanted to check if i burnt one of my 700mb divx movies onto a dvd using nero to burn a dvd data file would it play fine on the portable dvd player?

Also could i burn a couple of these movies onto one 4.7gb dvd via data disc and choose which one to play on the dvd player?

Last question, it says i can connect this dvd player to a tv, im assuming if this can play my 700mb divx movies then i can link it to a tele and watch them through there?

    Thanks very much!

To play your divx/avi movies from your 700mb CD-R you need what is called a divx/avi player, they sell in the USA at discount stores for $39. dollars and they run directly into the tele.

Most DVD's that are in the meg2 format, like DVD-5 at 4.7gb and DVD-9 at 8.5gb require a mpeg,mp3,cd player/recorder to watch the movie on the tele

Normal procedure for creating an mpeg2 DVD disk is:

    rip, encode, author, and burn.

I believe they are still called a data disk, but I believe the procedure you are talking about to create a data disk will not work or play the video.

Sorry to contradict ,Ed.But, a Data-DVD containing DivX encoded avi files WILL play very well in DivX certified DVD players. I have one such.

@Speedybadger, you can burn your avi files into a DVD-R( why only a couple? you can burn 5-6 if they are about 700mb each) as Data-DVD.When you open this in your player you will see a list of avi files. Now you can choose which one to play. But you will not get ALL the options(Menu, chapters etc.) for playback that would have been available in a normal DVD-Video.
