on my computer video and audio out of synch

    I have PII 350 with 4m video card sis6326,

When play back some divx, sound is fast than the video. The some divx works fine in other (faster) computers. What could I do to fix this problem without upgrade the hardware?

    Thanks

I think this may be down to your CPU, as software DVD players require at least a 400/450Mhz CPU, I'm guessing this is also the case for DivX!

When I had this problem on my old PII-333 I removed the file "divx_c32.ax" from \windows\system into a temporary directory.

Does anyone know how this file is used ???

Make sure the post processing filter level is set to the lowest level, and try resizing your divx movies to a smaller resolution....that should enable you to play them on a slow 350 mhz computer ok

I played DivX on many different 300-400MHz PCs. Some tipps for you:

          - lower the screen-resolution to 640x480x32bit.
          - test different players. sometimes "the playa" is better sometimes it's better to use WMP
          - disable all background-programs
          - buy a new (used) vga. an old TNT/TNT2 would be perfect
          - lower the hardware-settings of the soundcard (i.e. 3d-sound)
          don't trust in guides

I have a same problem on my Celeron 700 MHz PC with Riva TNT video card onboard with 32 MB (shared memory). It's a slow configuration ? It hav't any special hardware acceleration and I don't know how I do this.
            Please, help me.

You shouldn't have any problems playing back divx movies with a celeron 700.
What resolution is the movie at ? is it 720x480?? something else?
what post processing level are you viewing movies at?
What media player are you using? use media player 6.4
go to the properties of the file in media player, go to the Advanced tab. then double click on "DivX decoder filter" and check the post processing level. set it to the minimum value.

Are you in Win98 or Win2K or WinXP or WinME???

get the CPU usage meter going...so you can see what your CPU usage % is...

I have Win98 SE, media player 7 (or any other - playa, bsplayer, MicroDVD) = same result. The CPU usage show 100%...
Movie is in 704x380, post processing is in zero. Video coding of movie is DivXG400. May be it's sound card who makes problem? I have sound card onboard (and video is onboard). One friend say that souncard not support high bitrate and CPU convert on the fly sound stream to lower bitrate. Is it possible? How I have to control the possibilities of my soundcard?
                Thanx very much!

                  B+W DivX

I have a similar problem only a little stranger.
All the colour DivX movies I have work fine but not a single Black and White movie runs ok. My computer is pretty slow. Celeron 300. SIS 8meg graphics card. I would not be surprised if my cpu is the problem but it seems very strange colour movies work fine. I have also considered that the audio might be stretched. Maybe so but for many B+W movies and no colour. Surely this is to big a coincidence. Do B+W DivX movies run differerently than colour? Seems highly unlikely. Also the movies I can run work on a friends computer. Mac G4
                  Hope someone can help
                  Bye

I have a "somehow" similar problem.
I have a p3 800Mhz processor and when I try to watch my divx movies with my old 14 inch monitor the audio and the video are always out of synch! The strange thing is that with the same monitor i can play dvds witout any problem
With my new 19 inch monitor I can see my Divx movies without any problem but I canot play DVDs because the video becomes choppy!
How can you explain this "phenomenon"!!
If you consider it, it souldn't matter what output devise you are using, right; But it does matter, at least in my case.
Anyway when I play my divx movies I lower my screen resolution at 800*600 and the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz. Of course my divx codec post processing level is set to minimum.
When I play my movies from my cd-rom i choose my best cd-rom (plex writer 24x) and I have the DMA mode enabled.
As other people said it is better to make your movies at a lower resolution (the avi width around 500) but do not lower it to much.
Lets hope we will find a solution to our problem.
