a way to increase ripping speed?

I rip CDs using Xing's Audiocatalyst, using an 8x4x32 HP CD-Writer, and the read speed varies from 4x to about 9x. What factors effect the ripping speed, and is there anything that I can do to boost the speed? Thanks.

    rip speed

    1. this is a forum for digital video some people will be upset about the question you are asking.
    2. why use that shitty ripper

i recomend you use exact audio copy (free software)
Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences

the issue about speed depends on speed of pc, intensity of error correction, and severity of errors on original cd.
all dvds and cds have errors no matter how nice they look
    manufacturer defects
this will create a delay in processing
other things that will cause the length to extend are bit rate, size of original file, and output file type e.g. wave, shn, mp3, ogg

i would suggest you research the faq at the website listed above and trash that cracked version of xing (i hope you didn't pay)

i would also recomend you research *.shn and *.ogg

You could also try Musicmatch, although it's not free. Also, disable error checking. This feature slows down the rip process a lot.

Thanks for the ideas. I will check out Exact Audio Copy... I'm not a fan of musicmatch. I have some experience with .shn, and I am really impressed with the compression technology. I just don't have the hard drive space to store all of my music in that format. And no, I didn't pay for AudioCatalyst. =)
