Ok, I have only spent a day or two messing with this but I'm stuck and dont see how I'm gonna get out. I'm trying to donwload an ASF file about E3 that is fairly well hidden on CNET. For now, it is featured on the page: http://news.com.com/2014-1089-0.html with the text "Intel plays to E3 crowd".
I did some research on how to capture ASF files and found that a common technique for hiding them is by using an .asx file to redirect to wherever the .asf file is stored.
Using a beautiful little program called ASFRecorder (link) I was eventually able to download someting very similar in size to what the video file should be, but it wont run. First, just pasting the url for the stream that I found in the source code of the page didnt work, but when I used that with Download Accelerator I was able to grab the .asx file. Then, ASFRecorder used that to download an asf file that was 6.5 MB in size and had the same name as the asf that plays normally.
However, after all this, the file does not play, no matter how many times I download it. WMP complains of not being able to locate the file, and I even grabbed VirtualDub 1.3c which says it cant determine the file type. I assume this is another protection because when I just paste the url for the stream into IE it open in WMP with the same name as the file I grabbed and plays perfectly. But I want the file locally if thats possible.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this, or what I might be missing?
Btw, to save you some time, this is the asx stream: http://video.cnet.com:80/cnet_news/t...32629&xtn=.asx
