wmv to dvd

Hi.
I made these videos using windows media encoder which I can put over 25 hours of these wmv files onto a cd. Now I want to put these videos onto dvds and after converting these videos to dvd the size GREW and now each cd goes onto 7 dvds. Just to let you know I did put a menu on each dvd, otherwise everything is the same as the cd. Why do the videos not fit on 1 dvd? Is there a way to reduce the size of the dvd videos?

Depends on the bitrate you used. Set the bitrate on your encoder to say 3.5Mbps variable. Either way, MPEG2 (DVD) will take up more space than WMV.

7 DVDs for 25 hours sounds pretty good actually (a commercial DVD-5 is said to hold approximately 2 hours of video, while a dual layer holds 4 hours).

So are you saying that the DVD has 2 restrictions-size of the total videos and length of the videos? That is I can only put on 2 hours of video even though it only takes up 2 GB? If so, that sucks.

The only restriction is size.Now size is dependent on the bitrate and length.There is a restriction on minimum and maximum bitrates.So,if you want a longer video to fit into your DVD you will have to lower the bitrate(within DVD standards).For more queries see this.

Then why even after trying over 3 different softwares that convert my wmv files to dvd files do I only get about 2gb on a dvd which equals about 2 hours of video?????????????

dvd files imply mpeg2(vob) which for dvd video has a certain minimum and maximum bitrate

you have to have these to play on standard dvd players, that's the rules, can't break them

you can get 2-4 hours worth of video in a 4400MB file set

2 hours is high quality, 4 hours will be crap and then you have to push the conversion to it's limits

wmv, avi, mpeg4 are based on a higher video compression and can have good quality with smaller file size, but only capable players will handle those files, mostly avi with an xvid/divx capable player

Until you understand the limits of the hardware and the containers for the video, you are stumbling in the dark.
