how to rip audio from a DVD

    Hello,

I have wanted to rip the audio track from a DVD and have not had a lot of success. I would think it would be fairly easy to do. I have many hours of family movies on DVD and would like to just make audio cd's from them. Could anyone recommend a good program to do this? Also, what is the best program for extracting separate titles from a home made DVD? I'd like to post some Youtube videos of my family, but everything's on DVD and I can't get at the mpeg2 files! Thanks in advance for any help.

Another vote for PGCDemux. Though VirtualDub can do this too, and I think has a little bit more options, besides it is free, which aimersoft is not.

ecos there's a nice freeware that will take all the .vob files in a VIDEO_TS folder and convert them to .mpg. It's called VOB2MPG. Here's a link for it:
VOB2MPG is a DVD to MPG file converter. It goes through a whole DVD VIDEO_TS folder and joins up the various vobsets to produce MPGs for the different titles.

That tool is useful to produce single mpg for a single titleset. Otherwise,a simple renaming of .vob to .mpg will allow all editing softwares to open the files. No need to convert.

I'm not sure how much it does in the way of cleanup or modification during processing. But the run-time isn't a major investment. I have a feeling it's a modification of VCDGear but I'm not sure. It's written by the author of SVCD2DVD. I should ask ChrissyBoy exactly what the thing does one of these days.

Another means would be AviDemux. Due to the name I mainly think of using it with .avi but you can load a vob title set and demux the audio. Also the free version of TMPGEnc has MPEG TOOLS in the File menu that has a simple demuxer(I'm not sure if it works with more than one audio stream. Been a while since I used it.)

One of these days I should look at MuxMan. Many of the tools I use, use MuxMan for the muxing jobs, but I never figured out how to use it directly. So, many ways to skin this cat.
