    best quality capture

    Hello friends,
i have a sony minidv 38e model. i know that LCD screen is brighter than the actual picture captured in the camera, but sometimes capturing to vcd format from camera through pinnacle studio yields terrible results. is there any other software which can capture/produce better quality when i transfer dv tape to vcd?

    thanks in advance.

video cd is not high quality

mpeg1 is about the same as vhs

svcd comes close to mpeg2 dvd quality

many players don't support it tho

          Swarup,

Do not capture in VCD quality.First transfer DV to PC through Firewire. Then edit and convert to VCD.But,as Chewy said, never expect high quality from a VCD. Why don't you convert to DVD instead ? Blank DVDs are damn cheap nowadays.

Yes.And will you suggest I go for the Liteon ? My BenQ 1640 is still going strong. But it is becoming very difficult to get hold of BenQ 1640 or 1650/1655. All the dealers say that BenQ has very poor service backup,so they do not keep BenQ burners.

Well service and support should be better with the drives being produced in India, might give them some time to work the bugs out tho, Liteon's haven't been known for durability
but are the best for feature rich and firmware support. Are the new mbi verbatim dl more economical now than the singapore disks?

u need a specific hardware encoder like snazzi for that, iv never got same quality without using snazzi hardware . but thats many years back.

and my system has been upgraded many folds so i think getting vcd hardware is pure waste of money

One of three other companies that makes verbatim disks and the only one chosen to outsource dual layer to so far, but I suspect CMC mag will be next.

                            Hi

What do you say about Direct DVD recorders? I had posted a message earlier but got only one reply.

I am looking at Panasonic DMR-ES15 but this can't record on 16:9 format except in DVD RAM. My DV recordings are in 16:9 format .

Sony has RDR-GX220 here in Abu Dhabi but this again does not accept DVD-R DL.

the above work as DVD players too with progressive output .

I have no clue if Sony VRD-MC3 has 16:9 format. It is said in the spec that AR is 16:9 but the op.manual does not say anything about it.

I have some VHS tapes that I would want to convert to DVD. All of the above can record straight from VHS. VRD-MC3 could be used to record directly from DV or as a DVD writer connected to PC through USB.

Or is it better to go for a VHS to Digital converter to save to PC and use a DVD burner software and like DVD Flick or something. I need to buy a DVD writer though.

Defenitely this option is going to be cheaper as the above DVD recorders are going to cost around USD200 minimum in Abu Dhabi.

What do you all veterans say?

                            Thanks in advance.
