Direct to DVD Burning

Record master file? Do you mean the file I capture to the HDD with (ie. mpeg, avi. etc)? If so, that is what I am trying to avoid. I want DV to DVD transfers with my computer functioning mainly as a "hub". I want to avoid downloading any of the DV data because that is such an expensive process. If you do not have a firewire port...

I do.

Now if you are not interested to edit your master just use any of these tools to get a DVD folder structure of your master file:
AVI2DVD. DVD Flick or FAVC ( for FAVC see here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tools...Submit=Search? )
Afterwards burn the DVD folder using any standard burning software (I recommend ImgBurn)

But these tools, from what I see, require me to capture straight to my HDD first. :/

In my opinion this is the easiest way that you have with least probability of spending.

Yes, but very slow. Maybe you saw my other post on transfer speeds with firewire. I am getting pretty slow speeds in Vista and I need to used an external drive to capture this video. In terms of video editing or just DV to HDD to DVD... it's painfully slow.

Dazzle and their ilk are video capture cards that take analogue inputs (S or Composite) and convert to .avi. I purchased such a device a couple of days back to archive my old VHS tapes. The manual said it converts to .avi and then with Unlead make DVD.

If you want to make DVD direct through 1394 port the only option is to go for a DVD recorder or Sony's VRD-MC1, MC3 etc. Then your flexibility is lost.

Then cost wise it is cheaper to have a DVD burner and use the PC .PC being now a household appliance the cost of this shouldn't be counted

I didn't have a DVD writer and after some reading and discussions with a friend I purchased the 'DVD maker' and a burner (LG - GAS-E40L) all for USD90 as against USD 200 for a DVD recorder or DVDirect from Sony.

Thanks Subbu, this is exactly what I was wondering. It seems that I am just going to have to get a big and fast HDD to accommodate all the DV. I am still working on speed issues though because the transfer speed is SUPER slow on Vista with Firewire. It looks like that is just going to be my best bet.

LG - GSA-5169D.It has a one touch DVD creation process. It captures the video to PC and then writes the DVD on its own. Of course it has only S-video or Composite input. As you wanted, it uses PC as a hub.

I meant this for a pure software solution though. If I am going to spend that much money on the external burner, it seems I mine as well just spend the money for the all in one solution...

I think i am just going to stick to the big HDD solution. Not the fastest, but pretty versatile.

Must not be straight forward then because of the four output options I have, none of them are to DVD.
