No sound / fast forward issues

    Hey all,

I've had a variety of problems with video playback. I have windows XP and have recently installed both

    Nimo codec pack
    Ace megacodec pack
    tsunami filter pack

I've uninstalled them a few times as sometimes I get teh desired result, but then lose other functionality.

    The problems:

    1. movies play upside down (not an issue currently, but it has come up as packs were installed)

    2. certain movies have no sound (currently an issue...managed to get sound once, but not since)

the affected file has the following properties according to virtualdub:

    compression: unknown 0401
( I could list the rest at request)

    3. certain mpeg movies have stopped allowing me to fast forward. Basically, I click play, then if I advance say 5 min, it goes to that position, plays a few frames, then 'pauses' It won't play after a ff (this is a new one)

    Any ideas?

    Thanx for any help

    Yamin

Try disabling the Morgan Fast Stream Switcher (I'm not sure whether I've got it properly named, but it should look like it).

      1. Movies play upside down---Sasami might solve the problem easily, or you may have to use Virtualdub.

      2. certain movies have no sound (currently an issue...managed to get sound once, but not since)

Use GDIVX or WMP 6.4 to play your movies, uninstall divx 5.x if you have it on your system, and return to divx 3.11 alpha.

      3. certain mpeg movies have stopped allowing me to fast forward. Basically, I click play, then if I advance say 5 min, it goes to that position, plays a few frames, then 'pauses' It won't play after a ff (this is a new one)

Hey guys, thanx for the response.

I tried removing the morgon stream switcher codec, but to no avail.

I removed divx 5 codecs and reinstalled divx 3.11 codecs, but to avail.

I downloaded Gdivx, and no progress on the no ff mpegs and no help on the no sound ones.

I think its a matter of codecs or something. Anyone know what codec is needed for :

        "unknown 0401"

        Thanks all,

        Yamin

          Ok,

Just an update...i decided to wait one of those fast foward problems with certain mpegs. Eventually, (after maybe 6-8) seconds, it seems to continue playing. Still a big problem though.

          Weird...

MPEG files, after a fast-forward, take some time to begin playing again. On my system, it takes about 4-5 seconds.

              no they don't

MPEG files have never taken long to ff to a location. This only started happening after I started to install the codec packs to try and get that no sound video to play.

simply put, uninstall the codec packs.

About the no-sound video load it into virtualdub, post the "file information" and any possible errors or prompts you recieve. One guy I helped, had the same problem. I told him to solve it by backing up the file, and trying divfix, surprisingly it worked

Also try defragmenting the drive where the video resides and install ONLY the codecs that you need. Unnecessary codecs often interfere with normal operation of your system when installed.

Ok, I deleted all codec packs

Well, I deleted all codec packs, and mpeg no longer lags on ff.

I could not for the life of me remove the following 2 video codecs

                    Divx Codec 4.12
                    iyuv_32.dll

                    So, off me go...

well, this time, after trying to play the file, virtual dub said it needed a vfw format codec for I263. So I searched the web and found the driver at:

They explained why I was not getting any sound...and provided the appropriate drivers....all well that ends well.
