Home Theater Mode? Stand alone Divx player

I have a stand alone DivX DVD player, Phillips Dvp642/37, And the problem Im having with it is, It doesnt play all my DivX or XviD videos, I do a lot of encoding with Divx and I use a lot of different bit rates, I always use mp3 L3 When I use just DivX standard video and mp3 L3 128 bit audio. it plays perfectly all the time. and it will play a lot of files with different parameters too. like XviD with a 1100 bit rate and MP3 L3 148 bit rate. It plays that fine too. But sometimes I will have a file like Xvid 975 bit rate, And audio mp3 L3 160 bit rate, and when played in my stand alone DivX player, the video looks embosed, almost scrambled. The manual says I should encode in Home Theater Mode. I have never heard of that. Does anyone know why it plays some files fine and some files not at all? my PC plays everything of course. as long as I have the codec loaded it plays anything. I use Vdub and TMPGEnc mostly. anyone know how to adjust vdub for Home Theater Mode? Thanks in advance!

It's the "Home Theatre Profile" for DivX encoding that you might need, see the first screenshot here:

Tells you what the settings for the DivX 6.x codec means, and which one you should enable or disable, and general codec principles (page 2 of 4)

Profiles certify that the encoded video will be compatible with standalone devices that also carry the correct certification. Basically it means some more advanced DivX features, such as Q-Pel and GMC, are not used since some players will not support them.

Similarly, XviD encoding also has several profiles, and "Home Theatre" is one of them:

Tells you what the settings for the Xvid codec means, and which one you should enable or disable, and how to do 2-pass encoding with it. (page 2 of 4)

Phillips Dvp642/37 secret ... (or defect if u will) - ocassionally when one inserts media in player it will show a botched/embossed/scrambled colours picture, even though the media is encoded properly: now this sounds weird BUT here's what u wanna try:

On DVD remote hit the "Menu" button it is labeled Menu but above the button it says "System" anyhow one should do this while movie/vid is playing course it will stop the movie & bring up the DVD player Menu (not the actuall dvd menu but menu for DVD 'Player') after u have seen this menu come up- hit same button again - now the player resumes playback without the botched pic. Firmware upgrade won't help. More likely this is the issue than your encoding method. pls lemme know if this works for you as it sure did for me AND a frnd of mine with exact same blotched pic issue.

Well I`ll be Damed!! Hitting the system button and then hitting it again worked like a charm!! lol Oh man if I knew that a year ago that would have saved me so much work. I was going crazy trying to find out where I went wrong with my encode. oh well. It`s still by far the best dvd player on the planet. And a big Thanks to you Choco!
