problems with dvdr

hi. i was having problems playing dvd-r on my dvd player. it seems to be a hit or miss whether they work. when they don't work it says that the playback feature is not available. i have tried switching software and it still didn't work. could someone tell me what i am doing wrong or at least why some work and some don't.

Could be a lot of reasons. What media are you burning to & what program are you using to burn with? What speed are you using to burn?
