If you had to choose between these two camcorders...?

So, I am going to buy my (must be under $750) new camcorder this weekend.
And I am down to either the:

Panasonic PV-GS500
or
Canon HV20

The PV-GS500 is a 3CCD, miniDV, with the concensus that there will be no problems transferring and editing the DV-AVI in Sony Vegas 8 on my Intel Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz, 2GB RAM, Windows XP (sp2) rig.

The Canon HV20 is HD miniDV and the concensus is that the HD video will be superior.

So, it would seem like a no-brainer... get the HV20... right?

However, will my computer (specs mentioned above) and Sony Vegas 8 have a problem editing and rendering the HV20 HD (.avi?) video?

Sorry, if this sounds like a Duh? type question, however my previous experience has been downloading video from a Powershot S50 to Sony Screenblast... so before I buy a new camera and new software, I want to make sure all the components are on the same sheet of music...

The last thing I want is this to become an exercise in the tail wagging the dog, meaning that I don't want to get a camcorder that will require me to get a new computer and $200+ premium encoding software.

I would choose the cannon, thay have been in cameras for a long time.

The canon is technically more advanced, the hidef will be a little more trouble to convert but should be dooable with your present setup, remember you always have to option to shoot in SD. With the other cam you can't do high def at all.

hidef seems harder to play on a computer than to render

I would deffinitely get the Canon and 1 day when you do upgrade your CPU ,you'll be happy

Remember Panasonic PV-GS500 is also a super camera, like GS400 which toped everything before the HD came.

for HD u need HD hardware, if u have a HD display u'll be using ur camera to watch HD till u buy hd burner and HD player. but as chewy said, u can do SD too with canon so ull be ok.

what i dont know is how long can u record as HD on a dv tape?
