1394 port not detected [Sony DCR-TRV33e vs Win XP Pro SP2].

M fed up! Suggestions welcome whole heartedly.I haf a cam of the givn model n it isnt being detected. The USB works fine, if i connect USB n switch on both the cam n the laptop, it asks for the drivers, i install n it works fine. But USB video quality S%#ks! Now wen i connect the firewire cable nothing happens, its as if i didnt connect them.Firewire is 4-Pin to 4-Pin.Hve tried the following:1. 1394 port enabled in device manager, earlier it ws disabled.2. got the cable replaced.3. tried on another laptop. =(4. AV/DV out enabled.

Turn off camera and PC. Hook up firewire cable, next power up camera, last power up PC and when it gets into windows it should be detected.

Ok, nothing works. Do a google search for M$ bulletin for 1394 problems and download KB885222 and install. It fixes 1394 problems with XP SP2.

Sorry for the short briefings chewy.
i meant that i didnt loose out anything on my part, thrs n option A/V DV out to enable transfer via 1394 cable. What i read bout in othr forums is tht wen u do this n wen th pc is on, A "DV in" message appears in the cam LCD. But tht didnt happen in my case.

=> "A list of chipset for the firewire"- i dont know much bout it but except for the OHCI 1394 controller, it doesnt list anything related to firewire.

=>N a post in ur forum (http://forum.digital-digest.com/arch...-p-1.html)even pointed out tht thr r certain Sp2 files which wen u replace wit Sp1 files, the problem is solvd out. Here r the followin Sp1 files with their paths:
"Go to C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 in the sp1 cab copy out the
              following files

              1394bus.sys
              arp1394.sys
              nic1394.sys
              ohci1394.sys

replace the new versions of them in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
              and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
              reboot"
N i cudnt even do this as i do not have SP1 pack with me. Only if u cud email me thos files or provide me a link, i'd b very glad.

=>N then i foun this too:-

it says- "A Windows XP-based computer is not detected by IEEE 1394 devices that use the HANA specification". I sent an email. i 'll let u know.

Internet acccess is very limited to me. I dont haf time n i dont have much money. I m posting this thru my college lab's comp.Your co-operation is most welcomed n admired. Thnk u.

I did all that stuff with a friend's, big waste of time, he finally coughed up the big bucks and bought a quality texas instruments based firewire card and everything was a breeze

I dont haf time n i dont have much money
you have picked the wrong hobby then, dv is expensive and time consuming

Well chewy.. getting into a hobby without ur heart in it cannot be termed as a hobby. We dont pick hobbies. A genuine interest in something is what involves u so much tht it becomes a hobby. I didnt pick it, but wit a camcorder wit me i like shooting, editing n preserving my moments n just so its so expensive thts nt goin to stop me. It is out of my range in certain aspects but i'll try at the bare minimum level to be affordable to me.... n if u cant help me in this i don mind but pls don say i picked the wrong hobby, tht wud discourage people like me... i'll try every tweak and tricks-ur coopertaion is welcomed. thnk u.

you might have to buy an adapter if your native firewire is bad, what's your laptop?
I asked that before and you didn't answer. Did you read the rules, hate to be impolite but we can be very discouraging and unsympathetic on that point.

                        Firewire is 4-Pin to 4-Pin
                        @_12on,
Probably you have checked it urself, but still, make sure that the Firewire cards in the laptops are indeed 4 pin and not 6 pin.

Also, what program are you using to transfer via Firewire ? Have you tried WinDV ?

The firewire is indeed 4 pin. Even in the laptop as well as my cam- both 4 pins. Didnt try WINDV, m tryin in either MS windows Moviemaker or the pixela imagemixer tht came wit the camcorder. doesnt make sense to try since i m not prompted for the drivers( thrs no ding dong sound!).....

since i m not prompted for the drivers
they are in the OS, hence your generic identification from device manager

some firewire chipsets are crap, some are good

                            same story with the cam's

hit or miss getting the 2 to work together

Firewire Problem with Sonny Videocam XP

Not sure if this help but I also had firewire issue with my Sony TRV33e handy cam. The camera originally worked perfectly connecting via Firewire but then it stopped... kept getting a driver error pop up when I plugged in the camera ... Windows would then search for the Sony driver and fail saying it couldn't find the SOny driver. It was driving me nuts searching for this non existant SONY driver.. just kept finding USB drivers. It turned out to be nothing to do with Sony although that's what windows said it was looking for.... All I had to do was go to device manager and delete the 1394 Host controller & driver, let it refresh and search for new hardware, re-install the 1394 controller/driver and the camera immediatly worked again. So as far as I can tell the firewire driver should be supplied with your firwire card , nothing to do with the Sony camera and Bill Gates had me off on a wild goose chase!
