Hi guys, I'm new here ^_^
I've been using my laptop for quite a few years now, so I think I can honestly say that I am fairly savvy. I've been using it for anime and ripping DVDs and many other video tasks. The formats I mainly watch are AVI and MPEG(iPod videos). The AVI codec I have always used is DivX/XviD, and the player I usually use is VLC Media Player.
All was playing well, many great anime series were finished and many action and comedy movies enjoyed. However, lately I've been having this strange problem...
My computer has seeming lost the ability to play videos. What I mean is that when I go to open up an mpeg or avi file it simple shows a black screen with random white crackles that appear both in the video window and other parts of the screen. However, if I were to watch a video on youtube or the like it plays fine. Initially I would simply do a system restore and the problem would be fixed. However that eventually quit working and I was at my wits end, so I decided to make the dreadful choice of reformatting
So today I sat down and pulled off all the software I wanted and I popped in my Windows XP CD and in a couple hours my basic software was back and my computer was up and running. However the problem still remained!!!
What do I do? Is the problem with my codecs? Could it be my video card?(I don't see how because it plays stuff like half life and flash games fine) Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Can anyone help me?
I'm ready to break down, someone help me if you can ^_^
Thanks in advance!
