When using powerdirector 7, the program captures the video with a black ribbon on top and bottom. How can I get the capture in the right aspect?

By the way, is the preview screen in the software created as the full frame or the wide screen. The software that I use that I told you about has the wide screen preview screen but the previous copy that I had has the full frame for the preview screen.
It's a matter of going through the setting. About an hour ago mine was jammed on NTSC when I wanted PAL and I sorted that out through Edit and Preferences and going to the General tab. I know how you feel because I have to sort out a problem with some old footage with a similar problem where the 1:85 wide screen is squashed down to look like the 2:35 and everyone's heads are oval as if somebody sat on their heads for twenty minutes where the black bars are double the thickness.
Another thing. Have you tried burning your home movie to a disc and trying it in your DVD player? I'm asking because sometimes the Windows Media Player can play footage in the wrong screen format one time and maybe the next few and later it's the way it's meant to be seen and then it's wrong again. I found that out one time but I have no idea what causes that.
I hope you get things sorted out.
