    video camera advice

Looking at getting a camcorder, but don't really know much about all the technical stuff.
I bought my step-daughter an 8 mega-pixel digital camera about 6 months ago, and it ALSO takes video (which I was unaware)

She took some video of my sons birthday party and it looked pretty decent.
    So my question is:
Is the quality or format of the videos taken with her camera much worse than that which would be recorded with an actual camcorder? (I believe her video is AVI)

I would recommend getting a high definition camcorder, the quality is much better and just means anything you shoot will stand the test of time better. Standard def on a modern TV just looks awful, especially when you compare it to HD. With the prices on HD camcorders tumbling it just makes sense. I would check out camcorderinfo.com to compare models.
