Think positive thoughts LT. The place we used to be in workwise, with everything else that was plugged in. Somebody would be making coffee in the morning, it would be brewing & then somebody else would use the photocopier, Instant power out.

The joule rating is one of the most important aspects. I use a battery backup with surge protection and have my phone lines and all plugged into it.

The one I bought for my home theater system was a bit over $400.00 BUT that one has a warranty to never FAIL. And if it does, the warranty will cover up to $100,000.00 on replacements on what ever was plugged into it. If it were to fail and things get fried from a surge.

The warranty is for life or as long as the company is around I guess. LOL

With that in minde $400.00 is a cheap insurrance policy on everthing thats plugged into it.

the $400.00 surge protector isnt for my pc its for my $4,000 tv my $2,000 reciver, that my $4,500 speakers are hooked up to. my $800.00 dvd player, my $650.00 cd player, my $300.00 VCR

With that much money invested I went with the surge protector that would replace everything that was plugged into it in the event that is were to fail.

Like I said chaep inssurance. LOL

The surge protectors that I use with my computers were about $45.00

Now prices have come down and none of that is worth those prices today but I paid a lot for it back in 2000.

Back then I made over $26.40 per hour lots of over time. (MY good job went to china with the rest of the WI jobs that paid a good buck) WI. is going under, many people are leaving this state due to the job market.

I also had an inherratance check.

Now I am unemployed and praying each day that none of my stuff goes bad.

As far as my many computer I used to date a man that owned a computer store. I no longer date him. Again I pray nothing blows! At least nothing that cost big $$$

I really can not remember there is paperwork for it in a lockbox in my bank.

There is also a sticker on the bottom of the serge protector, that has the company name and address with 1-800 # and a direct # along with e-mail address for customer service and instructions on how to file a claim.

How ever it is behinde my TV which is almost as tall as me and wieghs a ton not to mention all of the stuff I have on top of it. Right nec to the TV is a HUGE cabinet that holds everything else and on each side are spaeakers again almost as tall as me and weighing over 80lbs each. To get to it to look at the sticker would require moving things I dont want to move right now.

I bought it from American TV's in Waukesha, WI though.

Do a search on high end surge protectors and look closely at their warranties. There are a few out there that offer up to $100,000.00 coverage of things plugged into it. Just read the fine print the link I posted earlier isnt the same one that I have but it is similar.... see of that one offeres the same warranty.

I lived in an apartment that used glass fuses(4 circuits). My father-in-law replaced them with push button type fuses. This just made it easier to get the lights back on. What a disaster. I didn't have a computer back then.
