watch out for those nec 3550 modded firmwares and max burn speed on 8x media, burning at 12x with those drives is dangerous, the benq seems to like
12x much more, but won't overspeed anything in default settings

looks like PA may have found a new hobby

lol - I know what you mean! Once I discovered NERO tool & realized what it could do, I have been in the process of scanning ALL of my burned discs - CD's & DVD's!

Guess, I should slow down a little, I don't want to wear out the new BenQ!

                as per jm -

@ Chewy; Are you still burning at 4x, or are you bumping it up a bit?

I have been burning at 8x for over 2 years now, matter of fact I was burning at 8x before there was 8x media, the plex 708 when it first came out, and later a plex 712. Those are some of the burns that I am replacing. A few mids were good enough. Most were not. My TYG01's(4x dvd-r) all burned at
8x last year are still my best burns. You can not generalize about burn speed.
This half the rated speed and the 4x rule, for example. The proof is in the pudding. Test, test, test.

Oops - I missed that in your posts! Move me to the D'oh thread!

Maybe the GROB needs to be updated to accomodate the faster pc's, newer drives & media available!

until they test their own setup, it's safer to tell someone to burn at 4x.

rarely does 4x burn bad, usually almost as good as 8X, even on modern
                      setups

Very true! Better to burn a bit slower & be safe, than to make a pile of coasters!

I am going to start testing burning faster, using Qsuite as Night does, & see what happens. I will post the results on the Disc Quality Scan Thread when I get a chance.

                        Cheers, katz

                            thread noted!

I will review it carefully! However, in the interest of "science", I am willing to sacrifice a few discs & push the envelope to see what this benq is capable of...

Altho I just now had a thought - don't want to overdo it & heat up/wear out my new burner with faster burning, if that could indeed happen...

heating would be more a problem with consecutive high speed burns, I have never felt any heat on a burned dvd yet.

                                Hmmm....
you know, I have felt that my burned dvd's were kinda warm when I removed them from the burner, & it has concerned me. It has been very hot here that last few weeks, but I do keep the A/C on in the pc room...

maybe I should space out my burns...

EDIT: @ Angel; those are some nice burns! I see you are having fun!
