As long as it is loud enough for my personal listening pleasure, it is loud enough. I do not need to wake my neighbours nor bring myself deaf. That would best be left to idiots who do not know the meaning of quality audio and are only concerned with loudness.

"it would raise the hair on a girl"

There are cheaper and more subtle ways to do it than buying speakers that cost a fortune. Buying speakers, whether monitor or hi-fi, should be meant for listening pleasures and purposes only.

How often do you think I turn up my stereo? Not unless there is a party. But I like to have the power to do so...

I like being able to feel the music I listen to... in both senses of the world.

Nothing like jamming 'pantera - slaughtered' and having the bass pound through your chest.

              Is 168 decibles enough?
              quite.

Naw in popular science there was a 13000 watt loudspeaker
yeah, used for concerts I'm thinking. And for your argument to be correct, you assume that we would have to think 13000 isn't too much. Which, it IS. that's a lot of power x_X

Ha another popular science mag. It's called www.dbdragracing.com try to get the loudest car pushinga 57 HZ sound for 3 seconds. There is a van that packs around 130,000 watts of power for 9 a5" speakers. Quite a bit I would say. But I don't go that far. The cars are set up to keep the sound in where a decibal meter is at so the cars are NOT drivable weighing in close to 10,000 pounds

I would appreciate it if you can start a new thread on car speakers instead and keep this one on-topic.

                  Thanks.

                      stereo

I have my pc plugged directly into my home stereo.

                      Sony receiver
                      2 X 15 inch Pioneer Speaker/Woofer
                      2 X 12 inch Pioneer Speaker/Woofer
                      2 X 6/9 (3 way) Bose Speaker/Woofer

To loud for my neighbors, but just enough for me.

I use a 10 year old Technics Class A amp (SU-VZ320) and a bi-wired pair of Mission 760iSE speakers on stands. It might be lacking in the surround sound department but to my ears it sounds great.

When I replace this setup it'll probably be for a Yamaha surround amp with the Missions as rear speakers. Hi-Fi equipment goes on and on so why waste it right?
