What kind of bs is this new commercial about piracy?

I'm sure you have all seen this crap as well. The end piracy commercial with Sean Astin, and James Cameron in it. Sure, like those guys are going to starve because we're copying a few movies. Maybe if they didn't pay ****ty actors umteen million dollars a movie, then they wouldn't have to overcharge at the theatres, and people like myself would be more willing to see a movie on the bigscreen instead of downloading it. Sure I go if I really want to see the movie, and I feel it's going to be good. But I've been wrong before, (Battlefield Earth, don't know what I was thinking!.) Anyways, how much money did Mr. Astin make from the LOTR trilogy?, and Mr. Cameron is set for life after that steaming pile of **** Titanic. As for the rest of that commercial, I don't think they're going to fire Billy down at the movie theatre because people are pirating videos, especially when movies are still pulling in 86 Million dollars on opening weekend. The same goes for the recording industry. Yet the companies make more while the actual artists make less in that field. The avg. recording artist recieves roughly one dollar and some change for every cd sold. While the recording companies rake in the other 16 or 17 dollars. The musicians actually make more money from touring.
So we're not really hurting any of the actual artists, I mean, unless only being able to buy a Bentley, instead of a Ferrari, and a Bentley this year is considered hurting. ****ing babies.
I say pirate everything you can and tell the industries to go stick it. It's time we took the power back.

When you think of it.. People who distribute copies of copywrited materials to others may actually encourage the purchase of this stuff as some of it merits purchase. So with that point of view, maybe you shouldn't pirate.

    lol
Government throws more money at a problem, so it looks like they are making a difference.

You are going up against people skilled at the art of manipulating you thru propaganda. Slowly and subtlely. They have over a half century's experience at making pieces to get you to think people with Stalinist leanings are actually the "good guys". Now they're making pieces to get you to think their greedy, blood sucking vampires are actually cherubic victims...and that family gathered around the TV taping an episode of the Jetsons using their equipment are vile felons. Call it what you may...propaganda, spin, or soviet (a Russian word meaning "good advice") you are witnessing pros in action...and their target is you.

You know, say what you want, but the simple fact is that it is illegal to make copies of copyrighted material. I am not talking about the ethical or moral aspects of it.
I am curious, how many of you that download and copy these files do so just because it is illegal to do it?

There are a lot of things that are illegal simply because a few ****suckers in power say they're illegal; and not necessarily because those actions are deemed "wrong to do", but rather so those in power can stuff their pockets full of money by manipulating and taking advantage of the public. There are a lot of things I do everyday that may be illegal, but if you were to ask the general public if they thought it were wrong or "illegal", they would more than likely say no. You see, the government sets the rules around the things that make them money. I guarantee you that if they somehow found a way to bring in money from pirating; more money than the recording companies pay them to keep it illegal, the very next day they would have commercials telling people to pirate videos because it is good for the economy.
Hell, look at Mexico. As soon as you cross the border you are bombarded with knock off versions of name brand clothing, electronics, toys, etc... How many people in power do you think waste their time trying to close those shops? This country is too obsessed with celebrities. There are too many people in this world who have enough money to be able to wipe their asses with 100 dollar bills, while others can't even afford to buy toilet paper. What I'm saying is that I'm going to pirate what ever the **** I want to, be it illegal or not, and I'm not going to think twice about it because some ******* in a Manhattan office is bitching about his 3 million dollar a year salary being cut by 5%, and Dr. Dre, and Lars Ulrich are whining like a couple of ****s because album sales are down, all the while suing college kids for thousands of dollars. Like 12 thousand dollars is going to keep these companies from going into the red. It's all gestapo bull****, and any kind of bite I can take out of big buisness and the government then I'm going to do it. Hell, turnaround is fair play now isn't it?

No, it is not. I may agree in principle with some of your arguements (colorful as they are), but that does not give me the right or authority to lower my standards to theirs.

While I may be cautious and skeptical of certain government and corporate doings I am not about to give up on rule of law and resort to anarchy just because "some one else did it".

                  To each his own.....

i download movies all the time and it has nothing to do with it being illegal they charge too much for movies any way and over in my area they charge almost 9bucks for a movie ticket and if you get a small popcorn and small soda it's over 20$ just for one person.

Yeah, well...what we do really isn't getting movies for free. Think of all the money you have tied up in your hardware/software investments (some of it sold to you by the same corporations trying to prevent you from using it.) AND the TIME you invested getting it all to work. When you think about it the whole lawsuit concept is ludicrous...corporations suing you ( and arresting you) for using their equipment for its intended purpose.

Hypothetical!! If downloading movies weren`t an option, how much were you then willing to pay for an average DVD movie?

It's hypothetical that Sony owns MGM? That TimeWarner is pushing it's DVR product? It's not hypothetical...it's ludicrous.
