Actually it IS the LiteOn which I'm using, and it won't scan (and I've tried three different types of media). The 'start' button is grayed out. The wierd thing is, as I mentioned, I CAN do the benchmark test....

All drives can do the benchmark test, but not all drives (as stated) can do the other quality scans.

You have to open and close your tray after each burn

Apparently I obtained the best media money can buy!

Finally got my disc quality scan to work, and I couldn't be more proud! Man, that Ridata media is top flight!!

p.s. Please excuse the full size image - I'm still trying to master thumbnails...

Now you know why I use Verbatims and Taiyo Yudens.I see your still using the HSOE firmware you should use HV9N you will get better burns. Then go here and download SmartBurn v3.1.16t.Click on my attachment below and make sure you have force hyper tuning and online hyper tuning checked.Once you have these settings enabled your drive will learn your media and it will give better burn each time you use it.If you can't open rar files just download WinRAR 3.70 beta3.Now that you have that you can download rar files and all you will have to do is hit the extract button and then you can open your exe.

                  BR7,

Thanks a million for the suggestions. It's 12:30 a.m. here and I'm turning in - but I'll make the firmware changes, etc. tomorrow.

By the way, while I haven't reviewed all the posts in this thread, I don't think I saw any with a score of '0'. That's gotta be a new world's record!!

You want to have a score in the 90's if your score is 0 you'll be lucky if it plays in your DVD player

                      BR7,

Downloaded SmartBurn (checked, and force hyper tuning and online hyper turning are 'on' by default) and downloaded and flashed the firmware to HV9N. Thanks again for the lessons! I have learned more on this forum in the past two weeks or so than I did in four years of college.

To get this thread back on topic, below is a scan on my newly flashed LiteOn of some Memorex 4X RW media I had lying around.

By the way, I have about 175 Ridata printable discs which I'd be willing to sell real cheap. See scan test results above. Since they're printable they'd make GREAT coasters. Get 'em quick before the trash collector gets here...

the little picture of a floopy disk at the top right will save the scan as a png

go advanced and attach and then it's viewable

WOW!!! that is a lot better then your last burn As Chewy said save your scan by using the floppy disc at the top of CD\DVD Speed and go to advanced reply and attach it to the thread with the paper clip.If you quote a thread you will automatically be taken to advanced
