      Chewy, of those Taiyo Yuden's from supermediastore which ones are the better ones to use. Just because they cost more doesn't necessarily mean they are better. Which ones do you recommend?

          the hub'd spindled tyg02's and yuden to2's are the best bet, but the
          value packed ones can be just as good.

              I went thru 100 of those, no coasters(maybe 1?), scanned low 90's.
              Good grade B media, consistent, but not near as good as they were
              a year or two ago.

              slightly better than the 16x dvd+r's

              the 8x dvd-r's are crap

                        Ya know, I guess I keep searching for the holy grail cause I get some skipping when played back on my Momitsu stand alone player. I've used Verbatims, Memorax (crap), Sony with little luck. Maybe I got a bad batch with the Verbatims, I dunno.

                        Of course, I've only used DVD- media. Maybe I should try the +? My standalone says it will handle both. I think there's a whole thread devoted to the virtues of + vs. -. So I'm thinkin' I ought to try the TY's or maybe a + media.

                            @Huskerfan,

                            I think your problem might be you are burning too high of a speed! Go down to 8X and no more ... even may be 4X burn speed and I bet you will be OK.
                            Alos, what works for me is 1) Make an ISO first then 2) Burn it using "ImgBurn" program ... Lately I have been burning at 8X because I really don't see much difference in graphs between 4x Burns or 8X ... except when I get a bad replay and I re-burn it at 4X and viola ... A-OK! BTW, I have been using TYG02's for these.

                            Huskerfan, Which Burner do you use? and at What Speed do you burn?

                            G!

                              I have a TS-H552B (Samsung, I believe) that came with my newest computer and a Sony DRU-510A that I have had for several years. Seems like alot of people prefer Benq around here and I can pick one up on ebay for about $30-$60. Depending on the model. How are the 1620, 1650 or 1655 models? And which one is the preferred burner? or is there a better burner in that price range?

                              I was burning at maximum but recently brought it down to 4x or 2x. I've burned a couple of Sony's tonight and they are absolutely CRAP! They are media ID Sony16D1. I got zero scores on 2 discs and my last Verbatim I had scored a 93.
