    @Chewy

    Are those value TY DVD-R's better than Verbatim DVD-R MCC03RG20 16X from Taiwan? I have never herd TY DVD's refered to as value. Do they make a variety of grades and are you sure they are the value ones or top quality?

    What advantage would I have over the Verbatims above that I have been buying?

    Thanks for the info. on my Samsung burner, I upgraded to firmware 0803.

      I went to blankmedia.ca, a while back and noticed the new packaging for the ty's, they called it "value line". Much of the value line was just bulk produced and packaged cheaply(shrink wrap), the tyg02 and tyg03 were not even maked. Some of the best scans I have seen came from the tyg02 value line.
      My last batch came murdered by shipping, handful of popcorn in a big box with
      200 shrinkwrapped. One batch was fine, the other dusty and scuffed a little.
      Still burned better than ver4batim dvd-r's tho.
      The tyg03 is not as good usually but still on par with better -r verbatim.
      Your burner and firmware make a lot of difference with the newer 16x mid code tho. Maybe someday soon I'll walk into bestbuy and see the same packaging, and quit playing the sales game. It's going to be up to your guys to report if they are any good.

      the guy over at cdfreaks that posted about these blanks wondered if they were fake since he had never seen a 100 pack spindled cake box of tyg's
      before

      if you look at his scan with a benq 1640 external burner burned at 8X
      you can tell they are the real item

          surely not?
          We shall see....

          I decided to order a spindle, hopefully they arrive this week so I can test them with the new firmware (SB05). Soup was bang on, .37 cents ea. including taxes, shipping etc.

              Looks like most locations are near or around Toronto.
              I figure even shipped, still getting them for about the same as Verbatim at Staples.

                Well they arrived safe and sound. First burn right off the top took a two year old burn on lousy media and burned a new copy on the TYG02, scored a 99 QS,lol.

                Thanks for bringing that to my attention Chewy, great buy.

                I will try some burns and post results over at the CD Speed forum later. I did notice a hang on the lead-in on my first burn with the Samsung and new firmware, but it came out great.

                    Quite the price increase since the Jan sales when the DLs were $24.99 and spindles were $19.99

                      Check out Zellers, they have Sony 50 pack spindles on sale starting Saturday & ending next Friday. Now if you can't find the MIJ's there but your Wal-Mart still has some, just take the Zellers flyer in to Wal-Mart. $19.99.

                              @Soup,

                              have you checked if the 16X MIJ 50 spindles are TY's at Zellers? I still am working on a 100 spindle of Verbs with a long way to go.
