I am kind of new, A little help....;)

So far i have been using DrDivX1.0.3 (15-day trial) from www.divx.com and the results were okay, I have seen better.
But I dont have any cash to buy DrDivX

If I want to back up my DVDs (for free ) And basicaly I want the best quality I can get that will fit onto 1 cd (700 MB), 2 cds if its a long film like Lord Of The Rings. What is the best codec, software and method I should use?

I tried a Gordian Knot/DivX 5.0.2 guide i got from this forum, but it didnt work I am still trying to get it to work...

Is Gordian Knot and DivX 5.0.2 the best program/codec i should use for what i want?

And also what is Xvid, should i consider using that codec?

It would be very apreciated if some1 could reply Thx

dvx- never heard of that before is it better than divx?

What will give me the best quality on 1 cd (700mb) or maybe 2cds?? (To play on my pc)

Ogg (Vorbis) is a free audio codec. It's better than mp3.

DVX is an "all-in-one" dvd-backup software, UncasMs might speak about it

It depends on the movie lenght and its compressibility rate.

Thx I will try that method, just one question...
In your guides you always talk about 2 audio streams (2 languages) how can that be? Does it mean after encoding you have a video file that you can choose between languages or do you make 2 video files and mux the different languages to each one so in the end you have got 2 movies one in english and the other in german....

                    GGGrrrrrrr.....I allways have a problem....
When I rip the dvd usind 'DVD Decryptor 3' in DVX like it says in the guide everything is okay but then when DVD2AVI pops up and starts making the .d2v file and the Ac3 audio streams just before it finishes I get a runtime error window and DVX closes down. I tryed re-booting but still the same....What am I doing wrong and how can i fix it?.....

                    Thx
