    Problem Joining 2 avi's.

I have searched the forum and google (most results in german) but to no avail. So the problem is as follows:

I am trying to join two files (avi's) together in VirtualDubMod 1.541 but get the following error message:

"Cannot append segment: the video streams have different data formats."

I have checked to see if they have the same attributes but to no luck. I have attatched the info for both vidz as jpegs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Easy Video Joiner

I recently got this piece of software, and let me tell you it is amazing. it so far has joined and split everything i have thrown at it you name it:

    DivX
    XviD
    ASF
    MPEG
    AVI

EVERYTHING! althought i havent tried ogm yet.

its definitly worth it. its about $20-30 i think.

i saw another thread saying how EO Video can deal with joining abit better. although it did work, i did not like the program at all and do not want to use it again, unless necessary.

thanks for the suggestion, but i still want a solution to the error i get, for future purposes. i thought setarip would reply cos i have seen him reply to similar threads. oh well..

any other help would be very much appreciated.

Are you talking about Easy Video Joiner the program i recommended or another video joining/splitting program

Because Easy Video Joiner is about as simple as it gets in terms of user interface. All you do is add your file(s) , and its a one button click. That and the ending file size is extremely accurate.

          But whatever floats your boat.

"Are you talking about Easy Video Joiner the program i recommended or another video joining/splitting program"

No. i am talking about another program called 'EO Video'.

"Because Easy Video Joiner is about as simple as it gets in terms of user interface. All you do is add your file(s) , and its a one button click. That and the ending file size is extremely accurate. "

If so, i will then try this program cos i really do not like the EO Video interface.
            Thanks again.

@Setarip perhaps Uncasms could hopfully comment on my situation. i am just suprised as to why this problem has not been mentioned before. However i have seen this issue on german forum boards which is unlucky as i can't read german

Ok bit of an update. I would hold off on that program that i told you about hacker. I just tried to merge 1.4GB movie file i split with virtualdubmod, and Easy Video Joiner crashed.

Im on the search for an alternative.

sorry for the long reply, my tft monitor had problems and had to be sent off for repair. its been sorted.

thanks for the update. if you do find a (good) alternative, please ley me know.

btw, if anybody knows the solution/suggestion to my virtualdub(mod) problem, i am still looking for an answer, so any help is appreciated.

                thanks to all!

I've experienced this problem over and over myself and have not really had much luck determining what causes it. An example of how my problem surfaces:
I get a video sent ftp for a local rock band that goes up on the web.
Occassionally, the video file (created with divx and recently (ugh) with xvid. Dont get me wrong and flame me, xvid looks great, but I cant fix it when it goes bad as Premiere doesn't handle it.
So I split the file after doing a vdub error check. I get let say 3 parts, part1good, part2 bad, and part3good.
(the file is 640x352 and 23.976)
I take the bad part and ship it into Premiere. I then output it into uncompressed format and bring it back into vdub and recompress the frames (I usually take a frame thats good before the error and dupe it to fill the bad area. This creates a 'stop' motion but for the few frames on a web serve its negligible.)
Back into Vdub, I recompress with the proper codec. I then open the first piece (part1good) and append the second piece - the now error free 2nd part. The error message is:
"Cannot append segment: the video streams have different frame rate or data formats" (not the exact message) and if I recall it even will say :
                  part1 is 23.97602 and part2 is 23.97622
My only resolution I can come up with is to recompress all 3 parts so as to somehow guarantee the frame rate. I suspect it may have to do with the codec settings or something but I'm only guessing.

I have tried that avi joiner program which kinda works ... sometimes. Its been giving me errors as well lately regarding the framerates even tho it doesn't look different while listed on the screen.

the data rate, of the 2nd screen shot, at 28kbps seems low for a video
just curious as to the video quality at that low of a rate. the 1st screen shot shows 1217kbps

the 2nd one is 32kbps 'cos it's an intro video i created with avisynth and its only about 3sec so that wouldn't be the problem. But thanks anyway.

Has anyone found a solution for this as I'm having the same problem. I have over 100 clips to join together of various framerates and nothing I've tried so far has worked very well without giving me errors and problems (VirtualDub and AVI-Mux GUI).

                            @Penetrix

You might have problems with your clips when joining them. Correct me if im wrong but you have to have clips that are of equal crop size for example 640x480 and equal framerate or else you'll run into errors.

yes you are correct, my framesize is the same but I have clips of different framerate and want to join them. I just found Wiagra Video Joiner which does join clips of different rates but it's only a trial version and only joins 5 at a time. If you know of any other good programs please let me know!
