i dont know what tools you guys are using to encode i used Divx 5.0 for me makes files way smaller then 3.11 ever did. all depends on what settings your using.
encoding time wise, with same settings on both codecs 3.11 took 5 hours and couldnt even finish because i kept running out of virtual memory, 5.0 did it in 2 hours with near perfect quality.
what programs are you guys using like e.g. Flask?
if your using flask thats prolly why your getting lines.
I don't know why people keep saying that there is almost no difference in quality between 3.11 and the newer codecs. To me (and a few other fellow friends and encoders), there is an obvious difference in the colour contrast (or strength) and 3.11 is the better one.
Filesize has never been a problem with me for any of the codecs. It is all dependant on how you set the encoding. I say, if something's wrong with your filesize, it's your fault, not the codec's.
I'd say it depends. Some of these programs may not have been optimised for the new codec, much like the SSE optimisation in PIII was not adopted as soon as the Intel developers wanted it to be.
Please reread the first posting in this thread, the last 15 postings in this thread have been completly irrelevant to the subject. Please try to stay on topic, or open up a new thread.
Also the last 15 postings has contained absoluty no info except, that in your subjective opinions one codec is better than another. And I bet that anyone who cares knew that already. Please post if you have something usefull to say, otherwise you are just spamming the forum, and turning this into another 'my codec is better than yours' thread, and I really don't think there is much need for that.
