I would say, read the guides before you even touch a single button on any software........it helps, for DVDlab pro, look at my earlier reference for the guide, its pretty simple............if you READ it and follow it step by step.Comment

DvdReMake Pro will allow you to do this and retain the original menu's etc

tigerman8u is right in that DVDRMP can do this. Hopefully, r0lZ will make Zacoz's method a macro in PgcEdit, so that we can have a freeware solution for this issue, which does seem to bob up more and more.

with the 3 .dat files, you convert them with standard tmpgenc, to mpeg-2 (dvd template wizard). THEN you use ADD file , NOT "add new track" in tmpgenc dvd author, this will join the 3. i've done this a 1000 times and is easy peasy, yep and easy
i JUST TRIED THIS WAY, WHEN I OPENED THE tmpgENC converter (not DVd authoring), it has this project wizard wher on the left are many options like vide CD (& sub options) , Super VCD (& sub options), DVD (& sub options) etc...so how would i know the resolution or video standard (ntsc or pal) of the VCDs (.DAT files) that i have on my syatem.
or can i ignore that project wizard and just convert >DAT files into MPEG-1 (No MPEG-2 option)

DVD has very standard resolution. See here. Use PAL since you are in the UK.

I am not an TMPGEnc expert. But I would select that as your input and using the DVD template wizard, you can then make it into an MPEG2 with proper resolution/aspect ratio/frame rate. TMPGEnc DVD Author can then create menus for you, if desired.
This post by ashes is relevant.

why not use ISObuster to extract the mpeg file from the vcd. a true vcd will allready be a dvd compliant file. use the guide here
do not forget to click on the tab "Extract but Filter only M2F2 Mpeg frames"
it will not work if you don't do this. alot of ppl forget to click on this option.Comment

It will automatically be converted to a compliant mpg-1 file, but can be authored using tmpgenc dvd author. is that what you mean tig? that's what i got according to that link"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888

I use ISObuster to extract the mpeg file from the vcd/dat file. If the vcd was done to a compliant dvd format (video/audio specs) the extracted mpeg can be used for authoring as any encoded mpeg. Is this what you mean ?Comment
