- Enchanter, OK, your tip with the textfile worked! great. Thanks.
I have made (with VOB2audio) a complete extracted audio file of the movie now. So far so good.
- Techno: BIG problems. After encoding the AVi-file( with dvdx) , the file is not really a movie-file!?! Very strange but reality. And I have executed everything by your instructions ( manual)...!
no errors but no valid movie file.
So, a round up:
- I have a good movie sound file. But I appearantly I can't encode the movie.
I don't know about your other problem there. Can you check whether the play length of both the audio (from my recommended method) and video (from flask, your original method) are the same? If so, you can just mux them together in Virtual/nandub with unlikely audio synch. problem. Otherwise, what exactly is the problem?
"What's really the problem?" is not so easy to answer that in this case.
-After encoding DVDx produced a AVI-file. Ok?
-None of my AVI-players( Media player, Twin player etc...) can visualize something on the screen.
No errors but the slide bar is not progressing.
Size+/- 45M. ( a bit small if you ask me).
But even encoding a small part gives the same result.
If you're not aware of it, let's just say that I recommend you get familiar with using Flask first (It's newbie-friendly). Use either DIvX4.12 or 5.x. I would point you to Nicky's guide on this, but I can't find it. I'll explain it to you instead.
Set up your Global Project Options and then choose the DivX codec. In the codec setting, choose 2-pass first pass, choose a name for the .log file (at the bottom right-hand side window) and start encoding (You will get an unplayable AVI file at this stage). After it's done, go to the codec setting again, select 2-pass second pass, make sure that the .log file has been selected in the window, and start encoding again. This time, the AVI file is the desired one. That's how it basically goes.
Note: I wouldn't suggest going the path of 3.11 single-pass in Flask, let alone 3.11 2-pass, to someone new to this. It is always a good idea to go slowly till you feel comfortable with more complex programs.
I am sorry but I think I am going to give up this trial.
I really appreciate your efforts but I am completely lost now.
T. Said use DIVX 3.11alpha , E. said use DIVX 4 or 5 etc...
That's not really practicable.
I did another attempt with Flask. I have an AVI-file of 1.5G!!! ( much too big if you ask me).
AND yes, it's again an unplayable AVI-file...!
I had hoped ripping a DVD would be much easier: With Smartrip 'copy' of the necessary VOB-files etc..., and afterwards with Flask or DVDx open a file and hit the button. ( 2 steps.)
Regrettably I have experienced it isn"t the case.
I do not know what I am going to do now: quit with the whole DIVx stuff or repost another question after a while. Because my initial problem has seriously been shifted.
T. Said use DIVX 3.11alpha , E. said use DIVX 4 or 5 etc...
Techno practically tells everyone to use 3.11, just because he likes it better than the other codecs. However, it is harder to do a 2-pass mode with 3.11 (using nandub, the only program capable of doing 2-pass 3.11), than with the alternatives (such as Virtualdub + 4.12/5.x). Knowing you're still new to this, I recommended the easier method. Once you're familiar with all these and are willing to learn the harder methods (with better output quality), then I will recommend nandub + 3.11.
