are you wondering which audio-stream might be the language you're aiming for?

did you extract and encode your audio like i described in the AUDIO part of the guide?

Love the guide. its wonderfull. Ive got a question though. Im using headAC3he to convert my AC3 tracks to mp3 before encoding. the GUI has a box for delay in it, that sets itself to the offset labeled in the AC3's filename. does this mean i do not need to set an offset in Gknot? i would like to avoid wasting 20+ hours of processor time, only to find out that the audio is 66ms off, especialy as the encoding is being done on a machine at work.

since headac3he will correct the delay you wont need to set any delay values in gk.

              compressability check

uncas on ur guide on step about 3.9 it talks about a compressabiliity check which file am i supposed to load in there to check im am not real sure about that and what does it look like if your movie is encoding right what screen should show up

thanks for ur help on the newer version

the compressibility check CAN be used (i never do it though ) to test, how much the very movie you want to encode can be compressed using the specific settings in gk, that the tool itself finds aktivated when running this test.

therefor you dont load any specific file but let gk test the film you have loaded via the dvd2avi project file.

gk will run through 3 or 5 (or whatever a user decided)% of the film and analyses the material.

afterwards gk will give you the results:

in order to get closer to the so called ideal values you can change the resolution and even the resizer influences the compressibility of a movie to some degree.

in the end this features was meant to tell you beforehand if your settings should be increased or decreased (resolution primarily) or if all should work decently.

like i said i never use this feature, as i think i have a certain experience and based on that i set my resolution + resizer/filter.

even with hardly any experience gk + divx5 will almost make the best out of the settings i propose, thus i do not necessarily advice to use the comp.check at all!

up 2 u and good luck

not sure what the problem is

ok I've read the guide and have downloaded all the apps. I converted the audio to MP3 before trying to encode my DivX file. For some reason it doesn't do it right. It encodes WAY to fast (about 26 min. for a 125 min. movie). I don't understand this. I have restarted from scratch 3 times now, and am asking help. I thought I missed something before but 3 times? maybe I'm just missing something evertime.

The AVI it creates is 6 minutes long and is the entire move. Only it's like preview mode, it displayes the movie for 2 seconds and skips like 30 seconds of the move. The output file is 26.7MB.

                      this is the log file...

                      8/8/2002 12:21:20 PM: Job "Movie 1" started.

are you definitely using divx5 (uninstall any divx4 codec!)
-maybe re-install 5.02 pro according to the guide.

                        - options => clear registry
                        - encoder => add job => point to the latest ( no old) versions of nandub and vd

                        - make sure avisynth is up-2-date/registered correctly

                            WOW

I've been using everything i can to try to get this Divx conversion thing going. I'v tried Divx 3,4 and 5, xvid, mpeg, flask, flaskxis, virtualdub, nandub and many more, and i just cant get the quality i require. but when i came onto these forums, and heard about the GK, i thought 'sounds good' so, i downloaded it and tried it. And I have results better than i could have ever imagined! thankyou!

                                m'k... I only have 1 question

why? I mean in general most folks want a VCD in the end. RIGHT!?

Why do we need 5.02 and/or DivX ripped AVI in MP3 lame layer audio. Form where I sit (a slite informed potition) don't we all want to make these DvD rips into vcd or svcd if your so lucking to have a DvD player that do svcd.

TMPGEnc Plus is all I have or know about that converts these avi files to mpeg1 for vcd making... but it doesn't do the 5.02 or mp3 lame layer audio.

Why? Why would we do this to the AVI's if we can't make vcd's out of them?

To make the files smaller and give them greater sound quality! RIGHT!?

Thats great, but hows a person to make vcd's out of them!?
