      tried that first,
that prog will only do it if the avi has been cut at key frames,
i have the latest version if virtual dub, it lets you cut on any frame.
it plays fine as an avi, but i think that this may have caused some form of interleave problem, so i probably need a prog that can treat the sound file and vid as if they came from diferent sources.

As far as I know, the latest version of VirtualDub is v.1.4.10 - and it has not changed anything regarding cutting on other than keyframes. Check out the author's website at:

Perhaps your problem is codec-related (Read the VirtualDub site's information regarding B-frames and DivX v.5.01)

          divx to mpeg 2

i had a similar problem with the audio
i used virtual dub to extract the audio to a very large wav file(998mb)
then using tmpgenc to encode the video file and the new audio file to svcd

if u have any further probs let me know
