avi files not playing

hi all

i downloaded a few movies, all avi's, but none of them play. in explorer's properties, the avi's were encoded with divx pro 5.02. i know i have that. when i play the file, the time increases, but there's no sound and picture. anyone with a clue?

did you try reinstalling divx502?

yeah man. uninstalled a few times in fact. don't even know if it's a problem with the avi's or the proggie. coz i tried playing some other avi's, and it works.

You might have gotten yourself a few 'fake' AVIs, where they are sized big, but in fact only contain blank, duplicate frames.

To check the content of the AVI, open each file in Virtualdub and go to File -> File Properties. If you are not sure about what you are seeing there, post the info box here, so we can take a look at it and tell you what you need to know.
