Can't get DivX 5.02 to work on XP

I am trying to view a DVD rip of star wars episode II on my PC. Unfortunately I just can't get it to work. I get image no sound or Image, sound out of sync and now I get nothing at all. I installed Nimo Lite with DivX 5.02 on top, with no improvement. Where can I find info in my system on what is wrong? Are there utilities available that can help me set this thing? Somehow fixed it last night

Last night I tried something I think I tried before. I installed VidX, then Nimo 5.0 build 8 and voila! I'm a bit afraid my registry is a mess by now.

My PC is a celeron 700 with a via chipset and an old diamond stealth graphics board. I think at least the last one needs replacing.
